Finding a little peace

January 24, 2025

Wow. The world is a lot right now.

You know what I mean?

I’m finding it hard to feel settled, amidst it all.

Hard not to be drawn into worry, despair.

I decided not to look at the news for a bit.

But it creeps in, you know?

Two nights ago, I barely slept. I was fretting, feeling helpless.

Next morning, I read this by Nikita Gill:

IN 150 CHARACTERS OR LESS

Everything is on fire, but everyone I love is doing beautiful things

and trying to make life worth living,

and I know I don’t have to believe in everything,

but I believe in that.

Macmillan Children’s Books, 2022.

It helped.

Maybe it will help you, too.

You can also see the poem illustrated on The Oatmeal.
